Iran reacts to Arab League’s baseless claims

TEHRAN, Dec. 27 (MNA) – Iran has dismissed certain claims of the communiqué of the Arab League’s Council of Foreign Ministers on Thu. as ‘biased, unconstructive, and irrelevant’ to the meeting’s topics.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari told reporters on Saturday that the Islamic Republic holds friendly relations with most Arab countries based on mutual interests and respect, adding “yet, certain countries which have come under criticism from regional and international community for being the main perpetrators of supporting extremism and terrorism are trying to shift the blame onto others and deviate the public opinion from their roles in destabilizing the region.”

The Iranian diplomat went on to add that regional governments were expected to pave the way for expanding cooperation and active regional relations based on common interests of all governments in the region by giving further consideration to the main regional issues such as the Israeli occupation of Palestine and the need for vindicating the rights of the Palestinian people as well as the fight against terrorism and extremism.

“The Islamic Republic is an active, responsible and stabilizing player in regional developments and will continue, despite the hostile and vindictive positions of certain countries, its constructive role for reducing tensions and settling crises through interaction with its neighbors and the international community,” he said.
